THE OLD FASHIONED REVIVAL HOUR QUARTET

The Old Fashioned Revival Quartet was also known as the Goose Creek Quartet and began singing as a part of the radio ministry of the Country Church of Hollywood in 1933. Their accompanist was a young Rudy Atwood. In 1937 the Quartet, accompanied by Rudy, also began singing on the Old Fashioned Revival Hour broadcast. Over the years many well-known Christian musicians were a part of this famous quartet.

The Old Fashioned Revival Hour Quartet had its origin in 1933 when it was first organized as the Goose Creek Quartet, and served, with its pianist Rudy Atwood, as the official quartet for the Country Church of Hollywood radio broadcast. The Quartet provided the music for the broadcast and each member played a character in the dramatizations.

In 1937, Dr Charles E. Fuller heard the Goose Creek Quartet on the Country Church of Hollywood radio broadcast and felt this quartet would enhance his new radio ministry, The Old Fashioned Revival Hour. So, the Quartet joined his broadcast as well. The Quartet continued as the Goose Creek Quartet and remained with the Country Church until 1956. It soon gained a world-wide reputation for its excellent music, and was considered by many to be the finest gospel quartet of its day. The Quartet sang with Dr. Fuller until the last broadcast from the Auditorium on January 12, 1958. They continued to sing and produce record albums until 1980.

The musical performances of Rudy Atwood and the Quartet were at their best on the radio broadcasts. Rudy's wide use of arpeggios, animated fingering, and creative improvisations were never duplicated in a recording studio environment, and only on the broadcasts could you hear the dramatic accompaniment of George Broadbent on the organ. So if you want to experience the inspiring music that attracted millions to the broadcast each week, you have to hear the live performances, never equalled anywhere else!

The selections on these CDs are taken from rare, spontaneous live radio performances, not from staged studio recordings used to make ordinary LP records. Using modern computer technology, the original transcriptions have been digitally remastered to enhance the sound quality of these historic and beloved songs.
